If you're acquainted with crafting a complete course in Canvas LMS, you've undoubtedly encountered both triumphs and trials throughout the process. It's one thing to plan the structure of your content on paper, allowing your creativity to envision the desired look, feel, and functionality of your course, but it's another to actually piece everything together within a digital platform and expect all functions to align with your original plan.

Over the past few weeks, I've meticulously assembled my course in Canvas. Initially titled 'Navigating Online Learning Environments Best Practices,' it has since evolved into 'Mastering Virtual Etiquette: Navigating UNT Online Resources Like a Pro.' This change was prompted by a fellow reviewer's suggestion that the original title was somewhat generic. I embraced this feedback, demonstrating adaptability and a willingness to refine my course. Setting the basic configurations and adding the new title to my course in Canvas was straightforward and enjoyable, allowing me to lay the groundwork and gradually incorporate the actual content.

However, despite the successes, challenges have emerged. The most daunting aspect thus far has been creating the content planned for each activity, including handouts, guides, and quizzes. Developing such content requires a significant amount of time and meticulous attention to ensuring alignment with the learning theory supporting the overall course design, as well as the stated learning goals and objectives. These challenges have led to deviations from my original course development plan, but I remain determined to address them with perseverance and dedication.

Moreover, this process has been instrumental in soliciting constructive feedback from my professor, teaching assistant, and classmates. Each person who has provided input on my course design and Canvas project has offered valuable opinions and suggestions for enhancing the final deliverable. Likewise, it has afforded me the opportunity to provide feedback to my peers, observe their design processes, and learn from their unique approaches. Having additional perspectives from individuals within the industry has been invaluable for identifying areas of improvement that may have been overlooked when working independently.

In summary, the experience of creating a course in Canvas from scratch has greatly contributed to my professional development. For instance, I've learned to balance creativity with practicality, as I had to adapt my initial course design to the functionalities available in Canvas. Much like a blank canvas in painting, Canvas serves as a platform to transform ideas into tangible, interactive learning tools. Moreover, through this process, I've honed my skills in aligning course content with learning objectives, a crucial aspect of instructional design. Canvas is well-equipped and customizable to suit your learning or training objectives.
