Embracing Feedback and Professional Timelines in Online Course Creation in Canvas LMS

As I continue to shape my Canvas LMS course, the journey has been marked by invaluable insights gleaned from peer reviews. These critiques, alongside the seasoned guidance of Michele Wiedemer, an industry expert, have steered my design process toward success. Every nugget of feedback, be it from my professor, teaching assistant, or Michele, has served as a beacon of constructive ideas in this developmental process. Their perspectives, both professional and as learners themselves, have enriched my approach, guiding me to refine and enhance my course content.

In most of my experience with instructional design, I have primarily functioned as an eLearning developer, where I am responsible for creating dynamic components for various learning experiences, ranging from training content for corporations to educational material for higher education. Therefore, creating a course in Canvas from scratch has presented me with numerous challenges. For instance, I have been redesigning learning objectives and goals for the activities I had in mind for my course, and vice versa. I've found myself revisiting and reshaping learning modules for coherence, and integrating unforeseen activities—all spurred by the insightful feedback gathered from my peers.

Facing the limitations of working solo and constructing this course entirely from scratch, I've found myself lagging behind the initial timeline I set for this project. Consequently, I've yet to align with what would typically be expected in a professional setting. While it's less than ideal to fall behind in a professional project, I view this setback as a chance to explore strategies that could boost productivity in my course design endeavors. I aim to emerge from this experience equipped to tackle larger projects confidently in the future.

In the realm of instructional design, embracing feedback and adjusting timelines are part and parcel of the process. With determination and a willingness to learn, I'm embracing this journey, knowing that every twist and turn will only make me better at what I do.
