As I look back on the journey of creating a course in Canvas from scratch, I can't help but
marvel at the effort it takes to craft effective learning content for online environments. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, like many others, I transitioned to remote learning, immersing myself in a plethora of online resources designed to enhance the virtual learning experience. This shift wasn't always smooth sailing, but in hindsight, I see it as a valuable learning curve, offering insights into what works and what doesn't in the realm of online education.
In my Canvas course, my primary goal has been to ensure that the content is consistent and relevant to the needs of UNT online students. It's all about empowering them to navigate the university's resources effectively, ultimately enhancing their educational journey and productivity. Despite my best efforts, I've uncovered several areas for improvement in the content and learning objectives I initially envisioned for this project. The temptation to hit the reset button and start afresh is real, but I've come to realize that, at this stage, incremental tweaks may be more prudent. It's all part of the journey, reminding me of the importance of adaptability and embracing new ideas to create impactful content.
Another crucial aspect of developing this course in Canvas was the invaluable feedback from peer reviewers. Having multiple pairs of eyes scrutinize your work is like having a safety net, ensuring that you're on the right track. Peer review isn't just about receiving feedback; it's about fostering collaboration and gaining fresh perspectives on the direction of the project. While I'm the creative force behind the work, I'm always open to constructive criticism that helps me refine my vision and better cater to the needs of my audience.
Lastly, creating this course in Canvas LMS has provided a platform to showcase the skills honed during my Master’s program and my experiences as an instructional designer and eLearning developer. Canvas LMS isn't just a tool; it's a canvas—a blank slate where the art of developing learning content comes to life. It's incredibly rewarding to know that my work isn't just there to be consumed but to make a tangible difference in someone's learning journey. Moving forward, my aim is to continue creating content that not only engages but also educates and inspires. After all, learning is a journey, and I'm excited to be a part of it, helping learners of all levels unlock their full potential in this digital age.
